Wei-Hsiang grew up in the island country of Taiwan. He moved to the United States to pursue his Ph.D. as an AHA predoctoral fellow, mentored by Dr. Huda Zoghbi at Baylor College of Medicine. As a HHMI postdoctoral fellow of the Jane Coffin Childs Fund for Medical Research at Stanford University, he worked with Dr. Liqun Luo, who pioneered the development of cutting-edge neuroscience techniques including Mosaic Analysis with Double Markers. The Huang lab was opened at McGill University in Fall 2019. The lab applies advanced neuroscience tools to understand the molecular and circuit mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders with a focus on Smith-Magenis syndrome. In parallel, the Huang lab is developing novel disease models for translational preclinical research and facilitate drug discovery. Wei-Hsiang enjoys tennis, hiking, movies, and travel to new places.
